Virginia Tech will get an official visit this weekend from one of the top linemen in the state of Georgia. Newnan High School defensive tackle/offensive lineman Sergio Render will travel to Blacksburg this weekend for his first official visit. It will also be his first ever visit to Virginia Tech.

“Yes sir, I’ve set one for Virginia Tech this Friday,” Render said when asked if he’s set any official visits.

“I’ve seen them on TV playing, but that’s pretty much all I know. I don’t know too much else about them. I’ll go down there this weekend and see what they have.”

Render committed to Florida State earlier in the recruiting process. Very soon after his decision, he decided to re-open his recruiting process.

“I’m a very soft commitment,” Render said. “I just committed too early. I hadn’t gathered all of the information and seen other schools before I decided.”

Render says he committed early to Florida State because “the coaches are nice guys. And, they were the first school to get in touch with me and they were the first to offer.”

Schools besides Florida State and Virginia Tech that are now in the hunt for his services include Ole Miss, Arkansas, South Carolina, and Savannah State. Arkansas is the only school from that list that has not offered.

Render says he will “probably go to Ole Miss and Arkansas” on official visits as well. He has been to 2 Florida State games and believes he may not need an official trip to Tallahassee.

For Virginia Tech, Render’s relationship with Coach Lorenzo Ward is a big reason the Hokies are in serious contention. Where the Hokies are recruiting the talented prospect to play is another reason.

“Coach Lorenzo Ward is who I talk to,” Render said. “He used to coach at this school. Coach Ward and I talk all the time. I trust him. He knows some of my coaches and he knows my uncle real good. I really want to play defense and he said they’d give me a chance to play defense first.”

Fans should not expect a decision from Render any time soon…more than likely, it will come several months from now.

“I’ll probably decide after my football season or after the beginning of the New Year,” Render said.

Render is being recruited strictly as an offensive guard for FSU. Virginia Tech and Arkansas are the only schools recruiting Render for defense. Will position be a factor for Render?

“It will be a factor,” Render said when
