Beddingfield (Wilson, NC) star defensive end Everette Brown’s first ever visit to Virginia Tech wasn’t exactly what he envisioned…but in a good way.

“I attended the game,” Brown said. “It was a good experience. It was my 1st time on Virginia Tech’s campus. Gameday was really interesting to see. The crowd was completely different from the in-state schools. They were very into it. They were jumping around for the whole game in the bleachers. The whole stadium was rocking.

“Just the whole experience was different. It was different from the in-state schools, but in a good way.”

Virginia Tech’s coaches made it a point to speak with Brown following the game. They especially emphasized their need for defensive ends and where he stands on their list of prospects.

“I spoke with Coach Beamer, Coach Wiles and the Defensive Coordinator,” Brown said. “They were excited for the most part. They said they’re going to sign 2 or 3 defensive ends and that I could get playing time early. Coach Beamer was glad I made it up. He said they needed me at defensive end. They want to bring in playmakers and they said I’m that kind of player.”

Brown carefully watched Tech’s defense, specifically how the defensive ends were used.

“The defense played real good,” Brown said. “I watched how they played the defensive ends. They just go straight up field and rush the passer. That’s pretty much what I do.”

Overall, how was his first experience in Blacksburg?

“I was pretty impressed,” Brown said. “I didn’t know what to expect. The campus was nice. It was a good experience. Virginia Tech is definitely one of the schools I’m considering. It definitely didn’t hurt them.”

Brown says he should have official visits set “sometime soon.” He still declined to name any favorites for his services. He is considering, in alphabetical order, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

“Everybody’s pretty even right now,” Brown said. “I still want to check out Florida State and Miami and see what they have to offer. They are high on my list too.

“I do have a list of pros and cons for each school, but I still need to see a lot more. I will take some official visits. I possibly won’t take all 5.”
