Like many other prospects, offensive lineman Jon Walko has been receiving phone calls from Division I-A coaches since September 1st. Virginia Tech was one of them, as Coach Frank Beamer and Coach Tony Ball talked to the Seneca Valley (Germantown, MD) standout on Wednesday.
“I had about 4 calls on Wednesday – Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Marshall and N.C. State,” Walko said. “Virginia Tech called to let me know that they are coming down [tonight] to see my game. I talked to Coach Ball most of the time, and Coach Beamer briefly. They told me they are still real high on me.”
Walko did not see the Virginia Tech/USC game in person, but was able to catch it on TV. He was impressed with the Tech crowd, which turned out in full force at Fed-Ex Field.
“It was awesome,” Walko said. “They had a huge crowd, and it wasn’t even a home game.”

Walko says he will likely visit Marshall as well. Having never visited there before, he doesn’t know as much about Marshall as he does about the other 3 programs.
“I’m anxious to take a look at them this year,” Walko said. “I don’t know much about them. I want to visit there.”
When Walko makes his visits, he says they will “likely” be official trips but he is not sure. One thing is for sure, and that is Walko will make visits for games, because game atmosphere remains a big part of his decision.
More on Tech…
Walko discussed further what exactly he likes about Tech right now.
“I like the fact that they are getting a new academic center,” Walko said. “I like the new addition to the stadium. Another thing is that they have everything in close...
