One visit was all Dorian Porch needed to determine that Virginia Tech was the place for him. Ever since his trip to Blacksburg earlier this summer, Porch has been seriously considering committing to the Hokies. Last week, he did what he was thinking about doing for so long and committed to the Hokies.

“It started out with me taking a visit there earlier this summer,” Porch said. “When I went there, I just liked it a lot. I liked being in the environment there. Everything that I did while I was there felt right. When I got back, I was really thinking hard about them. I just wanted to make sure I was making the right decision.”

Porch made one final visit to the University of Georgia before committing to Tech. Those 2 schools were his clear favorites.

“You never really know what a kid’s thinking process is, but I know Dorian spent a lot of time considering his options,” Gordon Central Head Coach Bill Long said. “He took one last visit to his other favorite, Georgia. ”I think he kind of knew when I called,” Porch said of Ward’s reaction. “I had talked to him before, and I said I was pretty close. When I called this time I think he knew. He was really excited. I talked to Coach Beamer, and he was excited too.”

Versatile and athletic, Porch projects as a cornerback at Tech. He adds that the Tech coaches have mentioned other opportunities as well, including special teams and wide receiver. The 5-11, 180-pound star has the versatility and athleticism to play many positions.

“Coach Ward told me he really wants me on defense, but then again I could see a lot of playing time on special teams and I might get a look with the receivers,” Porch said. Very fast, he runs in the 4.4s in the 40-yard dash.

Coach Long confirmed that Tech projects Porch initially as a cornerback. Porch plays quarterback and cornerback for Gordon Central.

“They’re recruiting him as a corner, but part
