Highland Springs (VA) star running back/cornerback Victor “Macho” Harris narrowed his list of schools to 6 yesterday. The top prospect in the state of Virginia, Harris has received close to 50 scholarship offers.
“Victor has narrowed his list down to 6,” Highland Springs Head Coach Scott Burton said. “It kind of surprised me, because I thought he would go to 9, but he said he was ready. In alphabetical order, they are Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Southern California, Virginia and Virginia Tech.”
Harris says these 6 schools all had several things in common that stood out among the rest of the schools.
“I chose the 6 because of the interest they showed, I felt like they all had good coaching staff’s and they all had my major,” Harris said. “I also took a look at the depth charts.”
The next step in Harris’ recruiting process will be setting official visits. Right now, Harris wants to schedule and take all 5 official visits before making a decision. He hopes to decide where he will visit over the course of his senior season.
“I’ll narrow things down throughout the Fall,” Harris said.
An issue in Harris’ recruitment is exactly which position he will play on the next level. According to Coach Burton, the final 6 schools have all indicated he could play either offense or defense for them.
“Most of the schools are saying it’s his decision,” Burton said of playing position. Schools like him as a tailback/cornerback. “Including Southern California, although they have said they need more help in the defensive backfield.
“He’s still leaning towards defense, but he also likes the idea of having the ball in his hands. Nothing is definitive.”
Harris admits he is leaning towards playing cornerback.
“I’m leaning towards cornerback, because I want to get on the field as soon as possible,” Harris said.
