Randallstown (MD) 5-star defensive end prospect Melvin Alaeze hopes to have his official visits set by the start of his senior season, which begins the second week in September. He’s well on his way, as the 6-3, 280-pound prosoect knows 2 schools very likely to receive official visits – Maryland and Virginia Tech.
“I think I’ll go to those 2 because they are the closest,” Alaeze said of making official visits to Maryland and Virginia Tech. “Plus I liked both of them when I visited [earlier this year]. As for the other 3 [visits], we need to sit down and talk about those. Some of the schools I’m considering are Penn State, Pittsburgh, the 3 sunshine state schools (Florida, Florida State, Miami), Ohio State and USC.”
Even better news for Maryland and Tech fans is the fact that Alaeze will be joined by very good company on the 2 visits. Teammate and standout cornerback prospect Jamari McCollough is one of Alaeze’s best friends.
“Last year was actually my first year meeting Jamari,” Alaeze said. “We’ve become real close friends through talking. We talk about the process, what we want to do and the schools we’re going to see. We do want to visit the same schools and possibly go to the same school, but we’ll see. I think we’ll visit Maryland and Virginia Tech together.”
This Fall, Alaeze hopes to make unofficial visits for games as well. He says he plans “on seeing a Virginia Tech game. We’ll go to other games too.”
One of the top defensive end prospects in the nation, Alaeze feels he has improved since last season in both speed and strength and feels very confident about his upcoming senior season.
”I’ve gotten a little faster,” Alaeze said. He plays tight end and fullback on offense. “The last time I was timed in the 40 was during Nike, and I ran a 4.58. I ran a 4.64 at the Meadowlands combine. I’m also bigger, but not too much. I’m about 280-pounds right now.”
