Brian Cushing ’s busy spring and summer of unofficial visits is coming to a close. Bergen Catholic’s (NJ) all-everything prospect may make one more visit, which would be to Boston College in a few weeks.
Cushing’s most recent trip was to the University of Maryland.
“Maryland was great,” Cushing said. “It went real well. I went with my teammate Isaiah Williams, who has already committed to Maryland. My Dad went with us. It was right up there with the other visits. You know, every trip is so great. Every team treats us so great and I think ‘what if I went there?’ on every visit. That’s what makes this process so tough. It’s really tough.”
With his unofficial visits ending, Cushing is now focusing on setting up official visits. Right now, he knows 3 of his 5 official visits.
“I’ve set official visits to Miami and USC for the month of December,” Cushing said. “I’m going to Miami on December 10th and USC on December 17th. I’m also looking to set a visit to Virginia for the first week in January. Virginia will be a middle visit for me I think.”
Though he doesn’t want to eliminate any of the 50 or so schools who’ve offered scholarships, Cushing did list several programs seriously in the running for the final 2 official visit spots.
“Penn State, Maryland, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Rutgers,” Cushing said when asked which teams are in the running for the final two spots.
Recently, Cushing came close to possibly ending his recruiting process when he almost committed to USC. Cushing held off on a commitment, but admits he is extremely interested in the Trojans.
“USC is a team I’ve always been very interested in,” Cushing said. “The location is great. The Pac 10 is known for passing offenses, so if I was playing safety I’d see a lot of activity. The USC coaches told me that, with my eye-hand coordination, I would be much better at safety. It would be a really interesting situation. My friend Dwayne Jarrett is there and he is liking it a lot. We talked a while back, and he said when he went on his visit he just fell in love with it. I’m anxious to visit there.”
Cushing admits it is tough to name a favorite right now. He says that if he had to name his favorite schools, USC and Virginia would be at the top of the list. He also knows he will take all 5 official visits and that anything can change.
