As a junior last season, North Hall High School (Gainesville, GA) tailback TJ Pitts rushed for 1,800 yards and 21 touchdowns on 184 carries, earning first-team all-area and all-state honors for his performance. Heading into this season, North Hall Head Coach Bob Christmas says his star tailback looks even better than last year.
“He’s doing fantastic,” Christmas said of his 5-10, 195-pound tailback. Christmas says Pitts runs around a 4.4 in the 40. “He’s been picked to be a preseason all-state performer. TJ is expected to be one of the most prolific players in the state. He’s had a great preseason so far. We’ve run an intense program during the summer. He basically said they have a couple of backs they are recruiting hard and TJ is one of them, but they will not offer until he qualifies.”
Christmas, who used to be the Head Coach at Jefferson Forest HS in Virginia, believes UVa and Virginia Tech may be very strong players in this race. In fact, he says the Cavaliers may be the top school at this point.
“I think Virginia is probably at the top of his list right now,” Christmas said. “As you know, Anthony Poindexter played for me when I coached at Jefferson Forest. TJ has seen all of the highlight films from back then and he’s always been a big Anthony Poindexter fan, so it was a real special thing for him when Anthony came down here. Anthony told me TJ was one of the top prospects on their board. In fact, he just called the other day and I have to call him back. They are really staying on top of TJ’s recruitment.
“TJ always mentions Virginia Tech and UNC also. Virginia Tech has done a great job recruiting him…Coach Beamer is one of the best recruiters in the country. Of course, [Virginia, Virginia Tech and UNC] are the 3 schools who have...
