One of the most recent names on Virginia’s recruiting list is that of Walker Ashely, a 6-4 ½, 285 pound defensive line prospect out of Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota. According to Ashley, the Cavaliers interest in him began in late May, when a Virginia coach came in for some game film. The interest increased dramatically over the summer.
“The interest from UVa really started picking up towards the end of June,” Ashley said. “Their defensive line coach started sending me handwritten letters then. Their defensive coordinator or offensive coordinator came into our school in May for game film, but I never got to speak to them. I still haven’t actually talked to anyone from there. The first letter was really long. I read that and I like the approach they took with me. They want to talk to me first before doing anything. Ever since, they have been sending me a lot of letters explaining the team defense they run and where they’d like me to play. They are recruiting me to play defensive end. They like my speed from the game film.”
Ashley was hoping to make an unofficial visit to Charlottesville this summer, but that appears unlikely at the moment. If he makes a visit to UVa it will likely be of the official kind.

Recently, Ashley named a top 5. Virginia was not on it, but that doesn’t mean the Cavaliers are out of it by any stretch. All 5 schools have officially offered scholarships.
“I just named a top 5 and anything can change, but as of now it is my top 5,” Ashley said. “My top 5 are USC, Ohio State, Penn State, Minnesota, and Oregon. Virginia is outside of it right now but they are on good ties with me. I’m still very, very interested in them.”
Ashley says that if Virginia were to offer, they would probably be at the top with these other schools.
“No they haven’t offered,” Ashley said of UVa. “They are still evaluating me. I guess it’s because they started recruiting me late. If they offered, they would be right at the top. They stay in my mind whenever I think about recruiting. The class they already have is interesting to me. It’s amazing that they have far and away the best class in the country. It’s interesting to me. They don’t leave my mind now and they haven’t offered, so obviously...
