Northwest High School (Germantown, MD) quarterback Ike Whitaker has seen his scholarship offer total rise to close to 20 over the course of the spring and summer. Whitaker has yet to narrow his list of schools although he has been able to visit a few that have offered.

“He’s been to Clemson, Penn State, Maryland, Florida, and he’s been to Virginia Tech,” Northwest Head Coach Randy Trivers said. “Those are the places he’s been so far.”

Whitaker went to Tech last week. It was a trip Coach Trivers says “went very well.”

“He was at Tech about a week ago,” Trivers said. “The visit went very well. It was not his first time there, so he had a familiarity there. It was a real good visit. He had a chance to interact with the staff and he got a sense of the academic side of things that I don’t think he had before. He enjoyed it.”

One of the more recent scholarship offers has come from the University of Florida. Coach Trivers commented on Ike’s visit down to Gainesville earlier this summer.

“Yeah they have [offered],” Trivers said. “They are a serious player for Ike. It was a good visit down there. He had a chance to throw and perform in front of the coaches. He was impressed by the facilities and the caliber of program they are. He had good interaction with the coaches and he came away with a good feeling.”

Another school very much in contention according to Trivers is the home-state Maryland Terrapins. Coach Trivers says Maryland is still very much in the mix for his star signal caller.

“Maryland’s done a real good job recruiting him,” Trivers said. “They’ve established a good rapport with him. They are right there.”

In terms of favorite schools, Whitaker appears to like several but has not narrowed his list to a select few.

“Well he likes all the ones we’ve talked about,” Trivers said, referring to Tech, Florida, and Maryland. “There are others out there too that he’s high on and where his teammates have committed. He had a great visit to Clemson, where our running back Tony Nelson committed. He went to West Virginia and liked it a lot out there. [Wide Receiver] Darren Brownlee committed there. There are still other ones who have offered he’d like to take a look at and he’s open to. He’s continuing to gather as much information as he can to make an informed decision.”

Coach Trivers is not sure when Whitaker will have a decision. Whitaker and his parents are evaluating each program right now and
