South View (Hope Mills, NC) tight end Jonathan Hannah arrived at Virginia Tech on Friday night and returned home following camp on Saturday. It was the 6-4, 255 pound tight end’s first visit to Blacksburg.
“I was impressed,” Hannah said. “I had spoken to Coach Cavanaugh and
Coach Wiles before, but this time I had a chance to talk to Coach Pearman and that helped a lot. I listened to what he had to say about the tight end situation, and it sounds like I would have a great opportunity to play early.”
In terms of visiting the entire campus, Hannah says he “didn’t get to see a lot except for the football facilities. From what I saw, it seemed like a nice setting.”
Heading into the camp, Hannah listed Tech as his favorite in an interview last week. Nothing changed following the visit, although Hannah did clarify how much of a favorite Tech is at this point.
“They are still my favorite,” Hannah said of Tech. “It’s not a great deal in terms of how big they are in front, but they do have a slight edge right now. The visit helped a lot. Obviously for me I’ve never been there, so the experience gave me a good idea of if I want to take an official visit there.”
Always a major issue in recruiting is landing an official visit. Tech appears to be in great shape to receive an official from Hannah, who is one of the top tight end prospects in the country.
“At this point yeah I am,” Hannah said when asked if he will make an official visit to Virginia Tech. “I might come to the NC State game for an official visit. I keep hearing how crazy it gets so I’d be anxious to see it.”
Hannah says he still plans on making all five official visits before announcing his decision. His recruitment has a long way to go, however Tech is in good position right now.
