Landstown (Virginia Beach, VA) linebacker Deveon Simmons has been focusing on two things this summer – working out with the team and hitting the books in summer school. The state’s most ferocious hitter has not had time to visit many of his top schools though he hopes to before the end of summer.
“I haven’t visited anywhere yet,” Simmons said. “I might visit some schools before I commit. Virginia Tech, Florida, Georgia, Pittsburgh, NC State, UNC, and Maryland are some [schools I might visit].”
Even if he can’t make some or all of those visits, Simmons may still have a decision before the start of his senior season.
“I’m going to try to do it before the season,” Simmons said of making a decision.
With over 20 Division I-A scholarship offers to choose from, Simmons listed about five schools who are “high” on his list right now. He did not name any one favorite over the rest.
“Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Florida, Georgia, and NC State are high on my list,” Simmons said. “I don’t have any favorites right now.”
When asked what he likes about the two schools closest to home (Virginia Tech and NC State), Simmons said the following.
“I like the coaches and the style of defense,” Simmons said of Virginia Tech. He said Tech is recruiting him as an outside linebacker or rover.
“I like the situation at NC State. I think I’d have an opportunity to play early.”
The 6-1, 210 pound Simmons has the athletic ability to play either outside linebacker or safety on the next level. The Group AAA all-state performer made 91 tackles with 42 tackles-for-loss and six sacks as a junior last season.
