One of the top remaining low-post targets for the 2004 class will begin making his official visits in the ensuing weeks. Montverde Academy (FL) center Idongeist Ibok is looking at four schools right now and hopes to make official visits to each according to Montverde Head Coach Kevin Sutton.
“There are four main schools ID is looking at, and they are Florida State, Virginia Tech, Charlotte, and Georgia,” Sutton said. “He has no official offers right now. All of them are actively recruiting him. He wants to visit all four schools, and he’s going to start taking his official visits very soon. He wants to check out all of his options.”
The 6-11, 245 pound Ibok easily has the size for Division I-A level competition. As a senior this year, he averaged 8 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per game. He was used primarily in a back-up role to star junior center Arminas Urbutis.
Ibok may be somewhat raw at this point, however the potential is there according to Coach Sutton.
“The first thing ID has is something you can’t teach, and that’s size,” Sutton said. “He’s got tremendous upside. He also has patience, which is a quality many outstanding players on the college level have.”
Virginia Tech, who still have not determined whether they will have an extra scholarship to give for the 2004 recruiting class, remain actively involved with Ibok. Coach Sutton is not concerned with Virginia Tech’s scholarship situation.
“I’m not concerned with anyone’s scholarship situation,” Sutton said. “I’ve known Coach Greenberg, and actually the entire staff, for a long time. I don’t think they would actively recruit my player if they didn’t think they could possibly get a scholarship in there.
“ID likes Virginia Tech a lot. They are definitely one of the schools he wants to visit.”
An honor roll student, Ibok has qualified academically. Stay tuned in the coming weeks to see where and when he will make his official visits.
Virginia Tech is eyeing two rising seniors from Coach Sutton’s program. One is the aforementioned center, Arminas Urbutis. At 6-9, 225 pounds, Urbutis served as the go-to-guy last season, averaging 17.5 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. He is drawing interest from ACC, SEC, Conference USA, and Big East schools. Virginia Tech is included on that list. No offers have...
