Following his official visit to the University of Tennessee this weekend, Washington Township (NJ) linebacker prospect Hugh D’Imperio now admits the Volunteers have joined Michigan State and Virginia Tech as the finalists for his signature.
“It was nice,” D’Imperio said of his visit. He was hosted by sophomore tight end Justin Reed. “Seeing all the facilities and then the stadium, it was great. The people were nice. Everything was nice, but the stadium was the best part. They called our name on the loud speaker, and the band played.
“They are now in my top three. I don’t have any favorites right now. I gotta go to Virginia Tech and then I’ll be able to make my decision. It’s going to be tough.”
D’Imperio plans on rescheduling his official visit with Virginia Tech from January 30-February 1st to January 23-25. Much of this decision is because of some of the players he met during his Tennessee visit.
“I spent some time with Brian Toal and Jerod Mayo down there,” D’Imperio said. “They are both probably going to visit Virginia Tech next weekend (January 23-25). Brian told me he probably was and Jerod is. I wanted to move it up to next week because those guys are going.”
D’Imperio indicated he will likely make his decision around Signing Day. He said his decision will “basically come down to a gut feeling. Everyone’s even right now.”
This week, D’Imperio has scheduled an in-home visit with Tennessee Head Coach Phil Fulmer for Tuesday night. He does not have any other visits scheduled at this point.
All three schools have officially offered, and all three like him as a linebacker. Tennessee and Michigan State like Hugh more as an outside linebacker, while Virginia Tech is recruiting him to play middle linebacker.
