Roanoke High School (Robersonville, NC) athlete Trimaine Goddard announced his decision today during a morning press conference. The 5-10, 175 pound prospect has verbally committed to North Carolina over Virginia.
“I have committed to North Carolina,” Goddard said. “Monday night, I was just sitting there thinking about it and it just came to me. It was really tough choosing UNC over UVA, but it was just a gut feeling. It’s just so hard telling the other schools that have recruited you that you aren’t going to go to their school.”
Virginia Special Teams Coach Corwin Brown was the primary recruiter for Goddard. Roanoke Head Coach Donnie Kiefer commended Brown for an excellent recruiting job on Trimaine.
“We both greatly appreciate what Corwin has done for us,” Kiefer said. “Like I told Coach [Al] Groh on Monday [during an in-school visit], they could not have a better person representing their school than Corwin Brown. We just think so highly of him and of everyone at Virginia. It was truly a tough choice, and one that went down to the wire with them and UNC.”
Goddard has canceled his remaining official visits to Florida State and Tennessee. He will not make any more official visits.
