Plainfield (NJ) defensive end/outside linebacker prospect Dan Davis is hoping to set up his official visit to UVA very soon. The 6-3, 245 pound recruit will likely head to Charlottesville on either the weekend of January 16th-18th or January 23rd-25th.

“I spoke with Coach Golden recently, but we didn’t finalize a date,” Davis said. “He will call me after the dead period is over and we’ll get something straight for sometime in the middle of the month. South Florida also wants me to take an official visit, so I might go there as well.”

Davis, who racked-up 90 tackles with 14 sacks as a defensive end this season, has made official visits to Rutgers and UConn. One report had him on the verge of committing to the Huskies, however Davis indicated something different.

“That report was not true,” Davis said. “I wasn’t even home when the person called, so they spoke with my father. My father told them he really liked Connecticut and wouldn’t mind me going there, and then I guess they took that to mean something else. It was just a misunderstanding.

“Right now, I just want to make all of my visits and compare all of the schools. I liked my visits to Rutgers and Connecticut, but I want to go to Virginia and maybe South Florida. I want to go see everything I can and weigh all of my options.”

Davis visited UVA unofficially during the Fall of 2003 for the game versus Florida State. He had named the Cavaliers as his leader heading into his visits, but also acknowledged he hadn’t seen any other schools other than UVA.

Although they are not the clear leader, the Cavaliers remain heavily in the mix along with Rutgers and Connecticut.

“Virginia is still very much in the running,” Davis said. “I like their program. Coach [Al] Groh is a real cool guy, as is Coach Golden. I like the facilities there, and I like that the whole town is all about UVA. It’s a real family atmosphere there.”

Currently, Davis is playing varsity basketball for Plainfield. The team is 4-1 on the year, including a solid showing during a recent Christmas tournament. Academically, Davis posted an 890 on his SAT’s and appears on the right track to qualify.
