Rod Council made what will be his final official visit this week, as he visited Virginia Tech yesterday and today. According to Head Coach Pete Gilchrist, the West Charlotte (NC) cornerback prospect enjoyed his time in Blacksburg.
“He enjoyed it,” Gilchrist said. “He enjoyed the coaches and the players that he was around. He spent a lot of time with Marcus Vick.”
Council plays a basketball game tonight and reports tomorrow to the North Carolina/South Carolina Shrine Bowl for practices. He will participate in the Shrine activities and practices throughout next week until the Shrine Bowl on Saturday, December 20th.
It appears Council will decide between Virginia and Virginia Tech, with Notre Dame and Michigan looking unlikely at the moment.
“He’s glad to get the visit over with so he can compare both schools (Virginia and Virginia Tech),” Gilchrist said. “He wants to have some time this weekend to talk to his mother, and maybe we’ll all talk next week at the Shrine Bowl. He should have more free time there so we can talk.”
Rod will likely have a press conference of some sort to announce his decision, and that may be next Saturday.
“He’ll definitely do a press conference,” Gilchrist said. “He’ll tell the coaches of the schools he’s not going to and I’m sure he’ll give the school he’s choosing a heads up. I’m sure he’ll have a decision by next week, so it may be next Saturday [when he announces].”
Who he’ll choose between UVA and Virginia Tech may be tough to guess.
“Rod might have an idea of where he’s going, but he didn’t slip up and tell me today,” Gilchrist said. “I have my own guess but I’m not going to let it out (laughs).”
