Westfield (Chantilly, VA) wide receiver Eddie Royal received yet another scholarship offer last night, when he learned Virginia would be offering him.

The 5-10, 175 pound Royal now boasts offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, Tennessee, Marshall, Syracuse, Boston College, and Kent State. Ohio State has requested film from Eddie, and is considering offering him as well.

“I found out Virginia was offering me last night when I spoke to Coach [Al] Groh and Coach [Al] Golden,” said Royal. “I was telling Coach Golden I don’t want to visit a school that hasn’t offered me, and that’s when he told me that they have offered me. He said they offered me a few weeks ago. I asked him to send it in the mail to me, and they are sending it to me in the mail right now.”

Royal has set official visits to Tennessee on December 13th and Virginia Tech on January 24th. He has stated he will definitely make official visits to Marshall and Syracuse as well.

Virginia is the very likely candidate to receive the fifth and final trip.

“They are probably the front runner [for the last visit] – I just need to talk to my mom and my football coach about it first,” said Royal.

Royal says the Cavaliers were one of his favorite schools early on in the recruiting process, however they have fallen back since they did not offer initially. Virginia must now work to get back to the top of the star receiver’s list.

“They (Virginia) were one of my favorites and maybe #1 early on,” said Royal. “I felt comfortable with their coaching staff. I had been to the campus and liked it, and I could see myself playing there. I guess all of that stuff is still true, but they are going to have to work hard to get back up there. It hurt them in the long run that they didn’t offer. I really like Virginia Tech, Tennessee, and Marshall now so it will take some good recruiting for them to get back up there.”

Royal says he will base his decision on “how I feel on my official visits. I’m going to make all five. I’m going to try choose the school that I enjoy the best without football. Football may not be around if you get injured, so I want to go where I fit in if I wasn’t playing.”
