Westfield (VA) wide receiver Eddie Royal has set up an official visit to Tennessee and an official visit to Virginia Tech. He has been able to figure out two more schools he will visit, with the fifth one remaining undecided.
“I’m almost positive I’m going to Marshall and Syracuse,” said Royal, who’s schedule to visit Tennessee on December 13th and Virginia Tech on January 24th. “I haven’t set any dates yet, but I’m going to those two places. The final visit will be between Boston College and North Carolina.”
Royal has official scholarship offers from all of the above schools except for UNC, who wants him to make an official visit before offering.
Last weekend, Royal and Westfield teammate Sean Glennon visited Virginia Tech for the Miami game. The visit made a strong impression on one of the top wide receiver prospects in the East.
“It was a fun trip,” said Royal. “We got to see the campus life and after the game we went into the locker room, which was awesome. In the locker room, I had a chance to meet all of the players and coaches. Most of the time I spoke to Mike Imoh. He told us before the game to watch out for something special, and after the game he was like, ‘I told you so.’ I also spoke to [Roland] Minor, and he answered a lot of my questions about campus life and how everything runs down there. He says he likes it a lot.”
After keeping a close eye on Virginia Tech’s offense during last weekend’s victory, Royal felt the Hokies may need a few more weapons at their disposal.
“The way they won the game was that they won it with defense,” said Royal. “The passing game struggled a little bit, so maybe they need some help on offense.”
Though Virginia Tech really impressed Royal over the weekend, he stopped short of naming them as his leader. He wants to make all of his official visits to be sure.
“I would like to say they are [my leader], but I have to stay neutral,” said Royal. “I’m going to take all five visits before I decide.”
Royal plays the final regular season game of his career this week before Westfield heads to the playoffs. If the Bulldogs win in the first round, a meeting with the Robinson Rams is likely in the second round.
