Virginia received a commitment earlier this week from one of the top tight end prospects in the country in Montgomery Bell Academy’s Tom Santi . He chose the Cavaliers over offers from Tennessee, LSU, Stanford, and Iowa.

He made official visits to Iowa and Virginia before committing to the Cavaliers. On his visit to Virginia, he was hosted by freshman center Jordy Lipsey and sophomore tight end Heath Miller.

Santi is rated a four-star prospect by both TheInsiders.com and a three-star by Rivals.com. He runs a 4.55 in the 40 yard dash, possessing great speed for his 6-5, 220 pound frame. An excellent student, Santi carries a 4.0 grade point average.

Edge: How do you feel having made your commitment to Virginia?

Santi: “I’m pretty excited. I called Coach [Andy] Heck on Tuesday night and talked to him. He asked me if I had any news for him. I said ‘yes I do.’ He said ‘let’s hear it.’ Then I told him that I was ready to be a Cavalier. He was pretty excited about it.”

Santi: “Where I’m from, going to UVA is a pretty big deal. We all know how great of a school it is. I thought it would be a good fit for me.”

Edge: Has Virginia spoken to you about how they will use you in their system?

Santi: “They haven’t talked specifics, but they said they liked my speed. With my speed that I’ve been blessed with, I can spread out the field and create mismatches for the defense. I’ll do whatever they want me to do…I’ll leave that to them.”

Edge: Are you happy to have the recruiting process over with?

Santi: “I am happy.”

Edge: Describe how you felt on your official visit last weekend.

Santi: “Virginia is such a beautiful place. There is not a single campus in
