Washington Township (NJ) middle linebacker prospect Hugh D’Imperio has two schools at the top of his list right now. Those two, Virginia Tech and Michigan State, stand out to Hugh because of the comfort level he feels with each coaching staff.

“My two favorites are Virginia Tech and Michigan State,” said the 6-5, 230 pound D’Imperio. “Coach Cavanaugh from Virginia Tech calls all the time. I like the way he and the coach from Michigan State talk to me. Coach Cavanaugh told me that if I don’t want to talk some days, just don’t answer the phone. I can tell he’s really good about it. Other coaches try and push me into visiting or something, but Michigan State and Virginia Tech kind of let me make up my mind about them by myself.”

There are more reasons why the Hokies and Spartans stand out.

“The linebackers coach from Michigan State said they have three linebackers, and two are seniors and one is a junior now,” said D’Imperio. “They tell me I’m their #1 guy on their board and I could come in and play early.

“Virginia Tech has a high-powered team. They are really strong. The whole team is really strong. They are going to be in the ACC and I like that. Coach Cav talks about how they want me as a middle linebacker because I’m tall and I can make it tough for quarterbacks to see their receivers.”

D’Imperio does not have a preference when it comes to red-shirting.

“If I have to red-shirt, that would be fine because it would give me an extra year,” said D’Imperio. “But if they want me to play early, I’ll definitely be ready to play.”

He has set up one official visit to Michigan State and has a tentative date for Virginia Tech. The other three visits are open, however he did mention two possibilities.

“I’ve set up an official visit to Michigan State for December 12th,” said D’Imperio. “I’ve set up a tentative date for Virginia Tech on December 6th. The thing about that is that if we are in the state title game, then that is going to fall on that weekend. I might have to push it back.

“The final visits are all up for grabs. I’ve spoken with Coach Slade from Tennessee. They want me to come down and check them out. He said I have a scholarship waiting for me. I like UNC a lot too.”
