Deep Creek (Chesapeake, VA) running back Antwain Carey made a triumphant return to the football field last Friday, when he rushed for 104 yards in a 37-3 victory over Hickory. The performance included a 54-yard touchdown run on just his second carry of the season.
Carey is excited to be back in action.
“Everything’s back to normal,” said Carey, who returned after missing the first three games of the season due to a fracture in his foot. “I’m starting to get back in the shape I was in last year. I was making all of the cuts I made last year. It feels good.”
Tomorrow night, Deep Creek takes on a Nansemond River team that defeated them last season. Carey will make his first start of the season.
In recruiting, Carey has set up two official visits – one to Virginia next weekend for the game versus Florida State and one to Virginia Tech on November 22nd. The Hokies are still the top school on his list, although he wants to check out all options before making a decision.
“Virginia Tech’s still my main school,” said Carey, who has received scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, NC State, Syracuse, and East Carolina. “Well…sort of. I still want to take all of my visits before deciding. I would like to squeeze a few more visits in besides those two (to VT and UVA). I’m not sure if I’ll decide in February or before then.”
The Deep Creek star is happy to be back on the field, looking forward to returning to his junior form.
Carey teams with junior Kishaun Jones to form one of the most potent tailback combinations in the state. Jones finished with 106 yards in last Friday’s victory.
“We have a lot of threats in the backfield,” said Carey. “I’m looking forward to the rest of our season.”
