Rod Council took an official visit this past weekend to Notre Dame. Though he did not commit, the West Charlotte (NC) star came away very impressed with Coach Tyrone Willingham’s and his program.
“It was great,” said Council. “The highlight for me was talking to Coach Willingham one on one. It’s one thing to talk on the phone but it’s another to talk face to face. He’s a great speaker – kind of puts a spell on you. It was a great experience. I also hung out with the players. Everything was good.”
The Fighting Irish have vaulted up to number one on Council’s list, which now includes a fourth team in the mix. Following an official offer a few weeks ago, Virginia Tech has now joined Notre Dame, Virginia, and Michigan in Council’s top four.
He will take official visits to all four schools.
“Virginia Tech’s coach called a few weeks ago and said they offered,” said Council. “You can say I have a top four now, and Notre Dame is number one. I am going to take an official visit next to Virginia on October 18th [for the Florida State game]. I have a visit scheduled to Michigan for the second week in December, but I’m hoping to move that up. I want to take an official to Virginia Tech, and their coach said I can come whenever I want.”
Council is one of the top cornerback prospects in the East. He has received offers from all of his favorites. Neither UNC or NC State have offered, however Council indicated that he wanted to go out of state.
Notre Dame appears to have set a high standard, but the other programs will have their chance as well.
