Off the field, Washington Township (Sewell, NJ) linebacker/tight end Hugh D’Imperio has a relatively calm personality. Once he hits the football field, things change.
Washington Township head coach Tom Brown says his star linebacker always “arrives in a nasty mood on gameday.” D’Imperio acknowledges that his coach’s statement may be true, and this season things will not be any different.
“Some people say that,” said D’Imperio of his on-the-field persona. “I just get excited. I just can’t wait for this season to start. I’m pumped up. I get to play with my friends who I’ve played with all of my life. And this year I’ll be more of a leader – I’m looking forward to that.”
D’Imperio adds toughness, athleticism, and size to his fierce competitive drive. He is 6-5, 230 pounds, and runs a 4.6 in the 40 yard dash. He plays tight end and linebacker for his school, and is being recruited at a variety of positions by colleges.
“I play tight end and linebacker for our school,” said D’Imperio. “I’m being recruited by some schools as a defensive end. Virginia Tech wants me as a middle linebacker. Some schools like me as a tight end. Wisconsin likes me as a standup linebacker on defense who blitzes on third down and a slot receiver type on offense.
“I like playing defense though…I like cracking people.”
It appears D’Imperio will concentrate fully on his senior season before heading full steam into making his collegiate decision. He has received eight offers. He did not say any particular school is out in front of the rest, however he did mention some schools he would like to officially visit.
“I have eight offers,” said D’Imperio. “Virginia Tech has offered me. They send me post cards from all of the coaches. I also have offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Wisconsin, UNC, and Temple.
“I really like Virginia Tech a whole lot,” said D’Imperio. “I definitely want to visit there. I like Wisconsin – my dad knows a coach up there really well. I like UNC – Coach John Bunting is a really nice guy.”
D’Imperio has also received interest from Ohio State and Miami (FL) – two schools he likes as well.
“I like some other schools who haven’t offered, like Ohio State,” said D’Imperio. “They called in May and wanted to see some film....
