Roanoke’s (Robersonville, NC) Trimaine Goddard is one of the best athletes in the state of North Carolina. He is 5-11, 185 pounds, can run a 4.5 in the 40 and has the versatility to play a number of different positions in college.
While the potential is there to play running back, wide receiver, or even free safety in college, coaches are recruiting him to play the cornerback position. His strengths are perfectly suited to play such a position on the next level.
“His greatest asset is his agility,” said Roanoke head coach Donnie Kiefer. “He has the ability to change direction very quickly. He’s a very elusive player.”
Toughness is another adjective that can be used to describe Goddard’s game.
“Coaches probably like my ability to come up and stop the run,” said Goddard. “I can stop the run and cover receivers.”
Goddard has received eight scholarship offers to this point – with Virginia, North Carolina, Colorado, Florida State, Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia, and East Carolina jumping into the mix.
Five schools lead for Goddard, who is not sure when a decision will come.
“My top five are Virginia, Florida State, [North] Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia Tech,” said Goddard. “If I don’t make a decision before the start of the season, I may decide to wait until signing day.”
A new team on the scene has been Virginia Tech. Ever since the Nike Camp in Blacksburg, the Hokies have been a rising factor in Goddard’s recruitment.
“I’ve spoken to Coach [Danny] Pearman before,” said Goddard. “But recently, they have really started picking up the mail they have sent to me.”
Of the schools recruiting him, Goddard notes that “Virginia, Florida State, North Carolina, and Colorado are recruiting me the hardest.” He plans on attending camps at UNC and Duke this summer, and will play baseball as well. He has taken unofficial visits to Virginia, North Carolina, and Duke.
