Moon Area (PA) defensive lineman AQ Shipley attended the Nike Camp in Blacksburg, Virginia, this past weekend. The visit provided him the chance to see Virginia Tech, one of his favorite schools in this early stage of recruiting.
Shipley is listing the Hokies along with nine others as favorites.
“I’ve got it down to maybe 10 or so,” said Shipley following Saturday’s Nike Camp. “Pittsburgh, Penn State, Michigan, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Boston College.
“I’m not deciding any time soon. I heard a story that I was going to decide this summer, but that’s not true. I’m not sure where that came from.”
One of Pennsylvania’s top prospects, Shipley has offers from all of his favorites. His trip to Blacksburg was his first ever visit to the Virginia Tech campus, and he appeared to really enjoy his experience. Now that he has visited one of his favorites, he can now focus on visiting other favorites during the summer before narrowing his list to five.
“[Tech’s campus] is beautiful,” said Shipley. “Tyrell [Sales] stayed with me last night and we went out and toured the campus, and it’s beautiful. Since I saw VT, there is no need to come back here [for a summer camp]. The Virginia coaches have watched me workout. So it will be Michigan and Penn State [for my camps], and that’s about it.”
Though Shipley grew up watching Penn State, he does not list a leader among his ten favorites. He does have a fondness for the East coast, which will be one of the deciding factors in his decision.
“I’d like to play somewhere in the East region,” said Shipley. “The Big East or the Big Ten or something like that. Location, academics, and how I get along with the players and the coaching staff [are more factors].”
