The following are quotes from Xavier Adibi’s press conference, including his reasons for picking the Hokies.
He opened by thanking God, his parents, his coaches, and his teammates.
“Through hard, hard consideration, I’d like to announce that I’m going to continue my football career with the Virginia Tech Hokies,” he said.
“This is a school that has a great academic program, and the football program is on the rise. This is a program that still has its best years to come.
“I came to my decision pretty much some time last week. I sat down with my parents and went over the plusses and minuses of both schools [VT and Tennessee], and went over how the visits went, and Virginia Tech came out on top.”
Adibi said that Tennessee didn’t have many minuses, but the distance from Tennessee played a factor.
Regarding his brother Nathaniel, “He didn’t push me to go to Tech, he just told me to go where my heart told me to go.”
A reporter asked if Xavier and Bethel DE Chris Ellis are a package deal, and Xavier replied, “I don’t know. There’s a press conference tomorrow. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow.” Then he smiled.
In response to a follow-up question, he said, “I would love to play with Chris Ellis, and I’m looking forward to playing with Vince Hall.”
A reporter asked if Xavier had contacted any other recruits who might be leaning Tech’s way. “I’ve had a talk with Chase Anastasio,” Xavier replied.
From that point on, Xavier went into one on one TV interviews.
