Techsideline.com was able to confirm this afternoon that Mike Brown, the DE/LB prospect from Palm Beach Gardens (FL), did indeed commit to Virginia Tech last night.
“Yes, he committed last night,” said PBG Head Coach Tim Tharp.
In the end, Virginia Tech turned out to be a great fit for Brown socially and athleticially.
“It was a couple of things,” said Tharp. “For one, he just really felt comfortable there on his visit. He felt really comfortable with the coaching staff and the surroundings. Also, Virginia Tech’s defense fits his aggressive style of play. Their defense is tailor-made for Mike.”
The recruiting coach throughout this process was Charley Wiles who, according to Tharp, did an excellent job recruiting Palm Beach Garden’s star defensive player.
“Charley Wiles did a great job recruiting Mike,” said Tharp. “He’s been recruiting him for almost two years now, and I think they really just formed a good relationship.”
Brown chose Virginia Tech over Michigan, Boston College, Florida, and Central Florida. The Gators had recently come into the picture before the Recruiting Dead period. There were rumors that Brown was considering an official visit to Florida, however that is no longer a concern.
“Mike has cancelled the rest of his official visits,” said Tharp. “He’s not going on anymore visits.”
