Maryland hosted a number of terrific in-state prospects last weekend. One of the bigger names as far as Virginia is concerned was Vernon Davis , the All-American tight end prospect from Dunbar High School.
Davis, who roomed with All-American linebacker Wesley Jefferson, enjoyed his visit to College Park.
“It went pretty good – I enjoyed Maryland,” said Davis. “I got to hang out with Bruce Perry and all of them. I know a lot of them already. Wesley Jefferson was my roommate. He was cool…I also knew him personally before visiting.”
For what may be a good sign for the Cavaliers, Davis did not make a verbal commitment to Maryland. Heading into the visit, Virginia was the co-leader with Maryland, and it appears not much has changed.
“It’s still the same old same old,” said Davis. “It’s still Maryland and Virginia. I’m still going to visit Virginia. I want to take my time.”
Davis will have quite a bit of time before his January 17 Virginia trip. Next week, he leaves for Texas to play in the Army High School All-American game on January 5th.
The super-athletic tight end prospect is a major target for the Cavaliers and the Terrapins. Davis has also set a January 24th visit to Florida, however he may not need that trip.
There have been rumors that Davis may commit to Maryland within the next two weeks. While he did tell me he will take his time, I got the sense Maryland may lead slightly. The key for Virginia will be getting him to visit. If he does make the trip, this one will be close.
