The Cavaliers have kept up their recruiting momentum heading into the Christmas break, as they have added the fourth commitment in a two week spand. Allen Billyk , the outstanding defensive end prospect from New Castle (PA), verballed to the Cavalier staff tonight.

Billyk, who becomes Virginia’s 19th commitment, committed during an in-home visit from Coach Danny Rocco tonight.

“I just committed to Virginia,” said Billyk. “Coach Rocco’s here, and we are busy calling people.”

Billyk liked Virginia when he took an unofficial during this summer, and had thought about committing ever since he took his official visit to Charlottesville on November 22. He wanted to see other schools before deciding, which is why he visited Boston College on December 10.

“Ever since I went down to Virginia during this summer, I thought it was the right place,” said Billyk. “I went around to more schools and wanted to visit other schools to make sure. Boston College was nice, but you can’t beat the Virginia coaching staff and the academics.”

Billyk played on the defensive line at New Castle this season, and projects as a defensive end at Virginia. The Cavaliers feel he can bring some nice versatility to the line, as he can rush the passer and stuff the run.

“I’m a defensive end, but I project to be about 280 pounds once I get my weight up in my upperbody,” said Billyk, who stands 6-4 and weighs 260 pounds. “They would like to have me play defensive end, because I have the size to stop the run and the speed and quickness to rush the passer.”

Billyk was recruited by Danny Rocco, who has landed his second great recruit in as many days…he was the main recruiter for Ian-Yates Cunningham, who committed yesterday.

An excellent student, Billyk maintains close to a 4.0 grade point average and has scored around 1100 on his SAT’s. He is known for his high motor on the football field, as he gives his all on every play.
