Charlottesville HS defensive lineman Chris Johnson finally did what many expected him to do for a long time – he committed to Virginia. Johnson committed tonight on the Cav Talk radio show.
Johnson, who also considered Virginia Tech and Maryland, felt the time was right to commit to the Cavaliers.
”Me and my mom were talking about it, and we couldn’t come up with a reason why I shouldn’t commit,” said Johnson. “UVa was always in front. I couldn’t see any down point why I wouldn’t commit.”
Johnson, who stands 6-5 and weighs 275 pounds, will play defensive end for the Cavaliers. He impressed the coaching staff this summer during Virginia’s camp, where Groh and company were able to see Johnson’s impressive combination of quickness and size.
Finally making his collegiate decision comes as a relief for the Charlottesville standout as he prepares to lead his team into the Division 4 playoffs next week.
“It could be overwhelming,” said Johnson of the recruiting process. “It will kind of clear my head [for the playoffs].”
Johnson becomes the 13th commitment for Virginia. He has led Charlottesville to a 10-0 record this season and a #2 state ranking in Division 4. He is rated the #24 prospect in Virginia by the Roanoke Times.
