Maybe it is the style SAS....

represents more than the actual person. ESPN has floundered under the former leadership of John Skipper, in my opinion. They overpaid for rights and got fat and happy off of ever increasing cable rights fees and were ill prepared to respond to industry changes and slow to react. Their news and highlight format got stale with the availability of highlights on demand and they chose a shock jock/opinion focus to their news shows as opposed to a more documentary/news focus. That style appeals to younger viewers but, the fallacy is those same younger viewers have neither the time or money to drive those shows. It will be interesting to see what the new president at ESPN does in terms of driving content and presentation going forward.
