Why not allow athletes who enter the draft an option to return to school?

It seems kind of crazy that a college kid has to risk his entire future by trying to predict where he'll be drafted. Why can't a college kid who's making the biggest decision in his life say, "I'm entering my name in the draft and I choose to eligible for NFL employment if I'm drafted in the first 3 rounds, but if I'm not drafted in the first 3 rounds then I am returning to school for now."

The only negative is it puts a bit more pressure on NFL teams with their selections, but not anything major. Think how many kids who have the opportunity to complete their education and still play the game they love.

Putting it into perspective, if I'm an engineering student in school and I'm open to receiving employment before graduating... why can't I say, "If you hire me and pay me $100,000 per year then I will forego my senior year, else I am going to return to school."
