May need a better antenna..... my experience (which is limited to a


shortwave radio when I was a teenager and beyond) was that the 2 meter band was like an FM band mostly for local transmission ....hence the emergency usage. A lot of ham radio stuff today is not the old morse code or voice "chat" and I think a lot is encrypted and then translated at the receiving end. Those transmissions would bounce through repeaters for distance. So when you scan through that band you may hear some fax-like squeals, some foghorn type sounds, etc but not much chat. Please take all this with a grain of salt cause I'm not very bright and haven't kept up with much of this.
