Impacts of VT-NCSU Dual Results for ACC Seeding

Wanted to touch base on the impacts of this Friday's dual on VT's seedings in the ACCT and potential impacts to getting an NCAAT bid.

125: Still unknown if Norstrem will be back this Friday or not. Only potential impact might be if Norstrem wrestles but NCSU puts Tommy Cox out there instead of Sean Fausz (he wrestled last week but has been injured for a period). Don't think Norstrem can beat Fausz. If Norstrem were to beat Cox, he might be the 3rd seed in ACCT but regardless, he will have to get to the semifinals in ACCT and beat either Fausz or Hayes (UVa) to steal a bid.

133: Dennis Gustafson vs Tariq Wilson is for the 3rd seed in ACCT, although I guess it is possible that Wilson could get the 2nd seed if Forys beats Mueller this weekend as Wilson already beat Mueller. Sometimes its hard to tell if the committee will seed based on ACC results or overall national ranking. Could matter somewhat for Gus' 1st round ACCT match as Sherman (UNC) is a tougher match than Finesilver (Duke). Lots of variables due to ACC match-ups this weekend. ACC might get 5 allocations at this weight, with Sherman the one that might lose out in the end. Even with a sub-par performance in the ACCT, he would be in pretty good shape for an at-large.

141: Brent Moore is probably the #2 ACC seed regardless of what he does this weekend. He will have the 2nd best ACC record and beat both Headlee and Zanetta. A 2-seed in the ACCT probably gets him Headlee in the semifinals. Probably 4 ACC allocations at this weight so Moore's chances are good at getting one of those as Martino (UVa) and Reitz (Duke) have struggles this year. I will say that the ACCT does have it's number of upsets so you always have to be ready for a battle.

149: Ryan Blees vs Beau Donahue is for the 2nd seed in ACCT. If Blees wins, he will be unbeaten in ACC and I guess could get the #1 seed over Troy Heilmann but again not sure if they will completely hang their hat on just ACC record as Heilmann is much higher in national rankings. Not sure it will matter too much if you are the 2nd or 3rd seed as the two seeds will get Lee (Pitt) and Leynaud (Duke) neither of which are very good and then Blees and Donahue probably will face off in ACCT semifinals. If Blees does get the #1 seed, he most likely would get Krivus (UVa) in semifinal. ACC might get 4 allocations.

157: Don't see any impacts from match this week as VT does not currently have a wrestler who could beat Hidlay. Most likely, either BC or Sully will be the 5th or 6th seed in ACCT and will have to beat Monday or Rahmani most likely in the ACCT to steal an allocation.

165: McFadden will be #1 in ACCT probably even if he loses to Hamann this weekend as Hamann already has a loss to Atkinson (UVa) but he is not going to lose.

174: The ACCT seeding at this weight is going to be interesting. A Hunter Bolen loss to Daniel Bullard probably puts Bolen as the #4 seed in ACCT and a likely match-up with Schany (UVa) in 1st round. A Bolen win makes it complicated with many variables including results of Ramos - Finesilver match this weekend. If Bolen wins he could be 1st to 3rd, again not fully understanding how the committee might seed the guys. Hunter still needs to perform well this weekend and at ACCT to get a bid.

184: ZZ vs Pete Renda will decide ACCT #1 seed. A #1 seed provides an easier path to ACC final as the 3-seed Ness (UNC) is a much tougher out than the 4-seed Harvey (Pitt).

197: Jared Haught vs Michael Macchievello will decide #1 seed in ACCT.

285: Andrew Dunn might be able to help his ACCT seeding with a win and would definitely help his ability to get an ACC allocation for the NCAAT. A loss makes him the clear #5 seed and probably gets Ryan Soloman (Pitt) in 1st round. A win by Dunn over Michael Boykin (I think NCSU is going Boykin instead of Malik MacDonald the rest of the way) probably does not change Dunn's seeding.
