Just back from the dual, my observations ..
I will give my observations and answers to some questions I saw below as best as I can.
1. Gus and Moore out with the flu, as was UVa's Jack Mueller, I heard.
2. Haskett wasn't awarded back points as the referee wasn't actually counting like a poster below thought. He was just giving the neutral signal (albeit in a strange motion), he didn't think anyone was in control and on their back. His review confirmed it, in his eyes anyway. I couldn't tell either way.
3. Overall, VT had 6 starters wrestle and they beat 6 UVa starters. Other matches included backups on one side or the other and yes, I don't count Sully as a starter. If BC gets healthy, there is no doubt in my mind who will go in ACCT at 157.
4. I so a post below about VT wrestlers looking gassed (again, I didn't assess Sully or the other backups). Live, I didn't see that. Blees and Bolen finished their matches strong while McFadden, Zavatsky, and Dunn looked steady throughout. Haught's match didn't go long enough.
5. Haskett is 4-6 this year.
6. Merholz is the only listed backup at 141 and don't think Robie wanted to throw him out there.
7. Sully is a shell and as I stated above, probably only goes in ACCT if BC is just not healthy enough.
8. 3 weeks to ACCT, if KN and BCL are not 100%, I wouldn't throw them out there against NCSU.
I thought the efforts of the six starters was outstanding, battled to the very end and outscored UVA 22-0. [Post edited by hokietony at 02/11/2018 5:33PM]
