I agree about American pro sports. Especially football and basketball.

I also like what you said about the underdog aspect about the English League. From my early research, I really enjoy the story of AFC Bournemouth. Within minutes of bankruptcy and relegation to one of the lower leagues, they storming through a couple levels to get to the Premier League. Smallest stadium in the both the Premier and the Championship leagues. Kinda like the little engine that could.

I also like how a single goal means so much. I watched this year's Super Bowl. Great game. But neither team could stop the other. I think a 1-0 World Cup game might have been more interesting.

I love how the clubs truly reflect the identity of the town or neighborhood.

EDIT: If I go, I will be there in the summer. So I'll miss the season. Might go to Wimbledon though.
