Fair question. Here's what I think

He's not a finished product; far from it. However, he has a marvelous combination of raw athleticism coupled with a solid fundamental base.

Defensively, I see him as energetic and fearless. He's a square defender, able, through solid footwork, to keep himself between the basket and the offender. He isn't afraid to scrap for rebounds and can sky well above that of a typical point guard. Pig also possesses that same raw talent, but Bede is able to rebound with more control.

Offensively, he's excellent at initiating the speed game, taking an outlet and pushing it ahead. His own shot-making is is still more basic. He can make a shot. He can drive the basket, but he needs to learn when and how to do that. That's really important, as you know, in Buzz's offense.

With time and experience, I have no doubt he will grow into the 5's role with the team. Fortunately, we have the luxury to bring both Pig and him along slowly. Thinking back three years to when 5 was a freshman being pressed into duty, I would argue that his defensive game was less developed than Bede's and his offensive game was about the same. By the same token, I'd say that 5's overall handle was superior to Bede's at similar points in their freshman years. 5 had a better idea of how to run the offensive set. That's the area where Bede struggles. Again, experience and time...
