The Hokies will be tested in the first game of the season against the Rebels who begin the season ranked #14/15. Here's a quick rundown based on the Ole Miss web site.

The Rebels are led in the circle by a strong 1-2 punch of Kaitlin Lee and Brittany Finney.

Lee transferred from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and posted a 23-11 record with a 1.82 ERA last year, pitching 249.2 innings with 118 strikeouts and 37 walks. She earned Second Team All-SEC honors and has garnered a reputation as one of the better pitchers in the SEC.

Finney won a national championship as a freshman at Oklahoma before transferring to Ole Miss last year. She posted a 6-1 record with a 1.80 ERA in 11 appearances and six starts and also swings a strong bat at first base when not pitching. She whiffed 33 batters in 42.2 innings and was the usual secondary option for the Rebels in the postseason.

In the outfield, the Rebels have quite the 1-2 punch as well with LF Elantra Cox and CF Kylan Becker.

Cox is an dynamic leadoff hitter that batted .429 and accumulated a NCAA-leading 93 hits for the Rebels a year ago. She also stole 25 bases in 32 tries, while striking out only 30 times in 233 plate appearances.

Becker has been described as "the best overall athlete on the roster." Last year, she hit .375 with two home runs and 31 RBIs.

Obviously, the Hokies will have their hands full today, but that's why you play the game.
