Potential bad weather is playing havoc with the Sand Dollar Classic Softball Tournament this weekend and the new schedule is ramping up the quality of overall opposition for the Hokies.

The tournament was originally scheduled to begin on Friday with the Hokies opening against Houston Baptist and Lamar. With bad weather in the forecast, tournament organizers are starting the tournament today at 5:00 (eastern time) with the Hokies playing #14 Ole Miss followed by Lamar at 8:00.

On Friday, the Hokies will play Florida A&M, the preseason favorite in the MEAC, at 11:00am followed by Penn State at 2:00. The Rattlers and the Nittany Lions replace Houston Baptist and Central Arkansas on the Hokies original dance card. The hokies will get to know Penn State very well as they are paired up next weekend for a pair of games in the ACC/Big 10 challenge in Durham.

If the weather cooperates, the Hokies will play #10/11 Alabama on Saturday at 1:00.

If the weather holds, this should be a good opening weekend test.

Personally, I'm excited to see the Hokies in action as I think they are being underestimated (looking through my orange and maroon glasses).
