VT Wrestler NCAAT Projections - After 3rd Week of ACC Duals

Was hoping to have a new coaches panel rankings but alas no new release since the Jan 19th release. VT competed in 1 out-of-conference dual (Temple) and 2 ACC duals (Duke and UNC) since the initial projection. So here we go:

125: Kyle Norstrem - Not currently ranked in the top 33 Coaches Panel. Kyle has a winning percentage of 50% which is honestly a number that won't help him. Remember that the allocations are based on 3 criteria: (1) winning percentage, (2) RPI rank (need 17 matches to qualify for a RPI rank), and (3) coaches panel ranking. RPI is unknown at this point. The ACC only has 2 ranked wrestlers at this weight, #3 Sean Fausz and #11 Louie Hayes so there may not be many ACC allocations at this weight class to try and steal. With his potential ranking and his injury, he won't get an allocation. Provided he comes back from injury, Kyle will have to steal one in the ACCT. He has historically been good against Hayes but Hayes seems to have take a serious step forward this year.

133: Dennis Gustafson - Currently ranked #13 in the top 33 Coaches Panel. Dennis has a winning percentage of 75% which is acceptable (above 80% is very good). The ACC has 5 ranked wrestlers at this weight, #5 Jack Mueller, #11 Dom Forys, #13 Gus, #20 Zach Sherman, and #26 Tariq Wilson so there may be a lot of ACC allocations at this weight class. Dennis went 3-0 in the most recent duals. His ranking will probably drop a little from the initial once as he has taken a few losses since Jan 18th but is still sitting very solid for an NCAAT allocation for the ACC and if the ACC keeps 4 or 5 allocations, it will be fairly easy for Dennis to get in the NCAAT.

141: Brent Moore - Currently ranked #32 in the top 33 Coaches Panel. Brent has a winning percentage of 68% which is just okay. The ACC has 4 ranked wrestlers at this weight, #2 Kevin Jack, #14 Nick Zanetta, #18 A.C. Headlee, and #32 Brent Moore. Brent beat Leynaud and lost to #13 Karam of Lehigh but the big win was over a ranked AC Headlee. His ranking should improve into the upper 20s. Right now, IMHO, he is inside the cut line.

149: Ryan Blee - I am going to assume Ryan Blees is the man going forward. Blees has a nice 79% winning percentage and #26 rank but this should improve with the next ranking as he just beat UNC's Heilmann. The ACC has 3 additional ranked wrestlers, #4 Troy Heilman, #13 Beau Donahue, and #23 Sam Krivus. As long has he continues to wrestle like he has been, he should get an ACC allocation.

157: BC Laprade - Not currently ranked in the top 33 Coaches Panel. BC has a winning percentage of 55% which is a number that won't help him. The ACC has 4 ranked wrestlers at this weight, #3 Hayden Hidlay, #11 Mitch Finesilver, #17 Kenny Monday, and #22 Taleb Rahmani so there may be ACC allocations at this weight class to try and steal. He is clearly on the outside looking in at this point but if the ACC gets 4 allocation, BC's chances go up as he might beat some of the current ACC's ranked wrestlers. He is injured so we will have to see what happens with him.

165: David McFadden - Ranked #3 in coaches panel and with a winning percentage of 100%, No analysis needed, David will be in.

174: Hunter Bolen - Ranked #31 in the top 33 Coaches Panel. Hunter has a winning percentage of 65% which is a number that won't help him but it is getting better. The ACC has 4 ranked wrestlers (will be 5 with the inclusion of Ramos) at this weight, #19 Daniel Bullard, #25 Will Schany, #27 Matt Finesilver, and Bolen. There may be a number of ACC allocations at this weight class to try and steal (but Schany is going to drop out as he is tumbling). His win against Ramos is going to really help his stats. His rank should improve and might be inside the cut line but must continue to win.

184: Zack Zavatsky - like McFadden, he is in. He is ranked #7 and has a winning percentage of 86%.

197: Jared Haught - Ranked #2 with a winning percentage of 92%. He is in obviously.

285: Andrew Dunn - Ranked #17 with a winning percentage of 64% (dropped from 72% and is trending the wrong way). ACC has 5 ranked wrestlers, #5 Jacob Kasper, #15 Ryan Solomon, #17 Dunn, #24 Cory Daniel, and #27 Michael Boykin. Not sure what's going on but can't score. He might be in the rankings next time but is in a free fall. May have to beat UVa's Love and NCSU's McDonald/Boykin. On the fence at the moment.
