I have wondered this as well. Often times on the offensive end we bail out
after the shot, making no attempt at a rebound. Granted this doesn’t speak to defensive philosophy but is like a situational retreat. I’m not sure I agree with the philosophy but I don’t delve into the numbers like BW either. It almost looks to me like at times our defense allows certain types of shots depending on the situation. Especially under the basket. I don’t know if that’s bad defense or a similar situational philosophy to avoid fouls on shots that will likely be made.
If so I would think that type of philosophy would have to deter a certain scrappy defensive nature from being emphasized and expected. But my basketball intelligence is admittedly low.
