Usually a test launch of something like this has a dummy mass (often water)


No paying customer wants to risk it, you don't want to add more complexity to an already complex test flight, so you put a mass to simulate a real payload and extra instrumentation for post launch/post crash forensics.

Musk has said he'll be happy if it explodes far enough away from the pad to not damage the pad. If it makes it to earth orbit, he'll be ecstatic, and if it makes it to Helial orbit that intersects the Mars orbit distance, he'll be (wait for it) over the moon.
