And they are competing in the absolutely toughest sport, bar none. Sure, a football player has to be in shape and ready to go on Saturday, but he doesn't have to come in at 6% bodyfat and then stand out on a stage absolutely alone for 7 minutes. This is a brutal sport that flat out demands a ton from these guys. If he needs time, he needs time.
