So Henrico County Public Schools cancelled the first semester exams...


scheduled for later this month. The reasoning is that they cannot miss important instruction time helping them prepare for SOLs. By the way, they take an extended period of time reviewing with the students at the end of the year to help them prep for SOLs and let them forgo final exams depending on their score.

My daughter is ecstatic, but I think it is ridiculous. I think that they are doing the kids a disservice by not challenging them, so that they have to learn how to study. I thought that the purpose of school was to prepare them for the next step in life, not focus the entire school year around BS SOL tests so that the schools can boast about high pass rates.
