Is Louisville playing the same defense this year as under Pitino?
If they are I think this is our worst matchup in conference, but if not we have a shot.
Louisville is a shot blocking machine this year, and they're led by a number of experienced upper-classmen.
Historically they've thrived off a relentless full-court press that forces turnovers and is something VT has always been really bad at dealing with (especially this team). A combination of the press and best-in-class shot blocking (Mahmoud) is a recipe for disaster unless we shoot the lights out like last year.
However, if Padgett hasn't been preaching the press, I think we can frustrate players like Adel and VJ King by staying in front of them. They are not a good 3P shooting team, so staying at home is going to be really important to not let them take advantage of their size. On the offensive side, we need to find a mid-range pullup game or always find a kickout, as our inside game will likely be non-existent without KBJ drawing Mahmoud away from the rim.
