The best way to learn, is to do it. ETrade is easy & has more info than

You will ever use. Don’t let it intimidate you. It’s really not difficult. Just don’t put all your eggs in one basket & stay with solid companies that you know are going to be around at least until you know what you’re doing.
First, go on ETrade.com & open an account. Then mail them a check or wire them some money to be deposited into your account. If you are rolling over an old 401K they will even contribute some additional money, maybe a couple hundred dollars, as an incentive to roll the money into ETrade so if that’s your situation be sure to take advantage. Then you will have a self directed 401k with unlimited investment options instead of being limited to the previous funds small options. One advantage of making a trade inside your 401K is you don’t have to be concerned with capital gains. Outside of a 401k, SEP or IRA you have to keep track of your capital gains and taxes are always a big pain. Once the money is in your account you can make all your trades online with a few pushes of a button. If you have questions they will walk you through it over the phone but you will quickly pick it up. They also have free investment tutorials if you choose to take advantage. Personally, I think more people should be involved with their own investments. Just don’t get cocky & make big bets. Try and keep your investments diversified. Stay in your comfort zone which will expand as you learn.
Good luck.
