I'm not sure you have the right read of Murdoch's intention with sports

He may very well have the intention of getting out of sports, and selling off the Regional Sports Networks was the first step. I've read several reports that at 86 years old his intention is to refocus on his roots, which is news. News Corp is his primary company.

He may have wanted to sell all of his sports channels to Disney, but he knew the federal government would block him going any further with Disney since they already have ESPN. He may come back and offer FS1, FS2, and the BTN to Comcast/NBC. They were exploring making an offer this time. That would certainly make it interesting for the Big Ten and Notre Dame.

Then he'd be left with Big Fox itself. The feds won't allow either Disney or Comcast to buy that since they each already have a major network. Murdoch is 86. He may not be interested in growing his empire anymore. He may be cashing in. He'll find a landing spot for this son.
