Not disputing that it is an advantage or that the money can be significant. The disagreement was with the original poster's contention that (1) they used non athletic financial aid in place of athletic scholarships which led to (2) essentially 2X as many total scholarship athletes. Scholarship limits and counter limits prevent that from being a reality in the higher profile team sports, however, it could impact some of the individual Olympic sports(swimming and track and field for example). The attractiveness of a Stanford education and the financial muscle provided by their sizeable endowment is unquestionably an advantage and my disagreement was with how the original poster characterized and measured that advantage.
