Why would Fox sell away the RSN part of its Sports Empire?

There has to be a reason why they let that part go and kept the rest of it including the BTN. I'm assuming Disney will let ESPN run them now. That's just assumption on my part. I haven't seen them say that yet. Those RSNs will enable ESPN to localize much more than they have ever been able to really do.

I understand your point about Rupert Murdoch still having influence at Disney as a large minority owner. But I'm not sure what his long term goal is regarding the sports world. He just decided that Disney is better able to put together the go to market strategy for the Hollywood part of his empire. He could come back down the road and do the same for sports. The NFL is a big part of Fox Sports. Should it continue to decline he may decide to move away.
